i found this rascal today... his wind-up mechanical system works well - when wound up he hops and bounces his head while clashing on his cymbals.
someone gave him a new glass eye after he'd lost one. his fur is synthetic, ears and feet are from felt. he' probably german - but not a schuco!!!

What a cutie. I can remember having one of these as a kid. It was always so much fun.

Max Carl (or Max Carl Original) - Has the logo/tag with "MC, Originals, with a monkey head."
The MC is for the old German toy company Max Carl (MC). MC had a variety of makers produce the different toys for them. Wagner Handwork Kunstlerschutz used the monkey-head label from 1951 to 1965, when it made animals by hand for the old German toy company Max Carl (MC).
These old animals are also often called MC Originals, because the label has an M and a large C surrounding the monkey head with "originals" written in the C. Max Carl marked toys start from the 1930's thru till the 1960's, but there is little additional info on the company. (Info from http://www.jodysattic.com/pages/makermarks)
One of the most popular articles produced by this company was of the 3 musical monkeys, called the "Kapellenaffen" - 3 monkeys playing drums, maracas and cymbals.

he's 15 cm tall.... i've noticed that there is a difference between the monkeys who are beardless - like mine - who appear to be older - and those who have a white beard - which are "younger" - dated to the 80's.
i've seen these monkeys on many fleamarkets several times, but their look didn't really appeal to me! when i wanted to buy a hand puppet monkey from steiff, the seller offered me both the puppet and this monkey for a very good price, so i thought: "what the heck!" and bought both!
i haven't uploaded pics of my steiff hand puppet monkey yet - but will so so in due time.
