I was told not to keep my old mohair bears locked up in cabinet - apparently it is not good for mohair. :rolleye: If you do keep them locked up you must take them out from time to time or open the cabinet:confused2: Is this true?:confused3:

Hi there Elizabeth.
Yes this is true, especially if you live in a place that tends to be damp or humid most of the year, air (preferably dry air ) needs to be able to circulate around your Teds, old bears are the most prone to mould or mildew if they are kept locked away in a cabinet or box they can get rot over time, also moths and weevils love to live in this environment too and find an old Ted’s innards a lovely home and yummy to eat. :mad:
I would take them out for a picnic once a month and keep lavender bags or ceder balls in with them to keep bugs away and never keep your bears in an area where they are in direct sun light, damp or near central heating or air conditioning.
If you suspect one of your teddies has a bug problem, you can pop him into a plastic bag, tie it up and place him in you freezer for two days, this will put an end to anyone living inside.
But warning! Don’t let your other Teddies see you do this as they might be rather traumatized:eek:!

Thanks, I'll sure take them out for a picnic. So it is better to display the old teds in the house rather than have them locked away. :happy3:I'll put my cedarwood blocks in the cupboard with them.

;) Your welcome.
I forgot to add that you can pop one of those moisture absorbers hidden in your cabinet with your teds; this will insure that no moisture gets to them too. :rain:

All those little bags of "drying agent" that you get in the bottles of vitamins and pills can also be used in the cabinets then? (I kept all those little bags , not sure what to do with them and now I found a good use for them ):dance1:

Hey! great idea Elize :humble::applause:
I'm going to do the same, I wounder if keeping them in a little dish might be an idea, only thinking that if they get very damp they might leave a little stain..... behind?:redface1: lol

Thanks, but I just threw those little bags in the cabinet.:ashamed: O.K I have just removed them. Some time ago I broke the lid of my teapot and could not find another but instead I found this little Chinese cup that worked fine as a lid. This little cup is going to the cabinet now.:rolleye2:

We don't worry about that! Bears HIBERNATE, don't you know! :laughing:
Seriously, we don't mind being on a shelf or in a cabinet as long as there is enough air to circulate around our fur so we don't get musty. Humidity is bad, regardless of the surroundings. We like to be dry.
As for the aforementioned possibility of getting bugs, yes, we will go into the freezer for a few days if it means we'll be rid of the bugs.
Hey! We've got fur! :papabear:

The humidity is my worst enemy...I've always lived in a very dry climate but since we moved here, boy is it humid!

I'll be moving closer to the sea in a couple of months but have loads of those little bags full of "drying agent.
It is winter in South Africa so most of my bears are hibernating. :rolleye2:
