Tuesday morning hubby phoned me as I was taking the children to school and told me that he just found a spotted eagle owl in our garden. The Eagle owl looks quite young but he is not afraid of people:puzzled::puzzled::puzzled:

We "fed" him and he is still in our garden:cloud9:

Will post some pictures soon...

WOW! that is something very special to see nowadays - not to mention having him that close by and feeding him. if he's still young he might not know better, or be so hungry that his instinctive fear has taken a backseat to his survival instinct!

please upload some pics!! :applause:

I'll upload some pics(my camera is broken so I'll wait for my brother as I used his camera)

We made him an owl box and named him "Uil" or "Owl"

He is so special and he does not mind us looking at him.(I think:confused2:) Last night we walked past the tree and as we reached the house he came toward us and sat on the roof just above us - it was such a magical experience.

He certainly will not starve around here as there are lots of mice and rats around.

I am so happy to report that our owl came back last week and since then he is back every night to get his "food"

Here is a picture of Owl in the plastic container after he killed his food. He then jumps out and eats the food under a tree. This picture was taken during the day but since then he only comes at dusk for his food.

I know it is cruel to feed the owl but we always wanted an owl...

This owl is very young as he does not have his "voice" yet.

Why is it cruel to feed owls?

When we lived in CA we had a white owl living in our palm...he was so beautiful.
1 Loved to hear him. One week a screech owl came and I sure didn't love to hear him but he left after a week. The white owl came year after year to our amazement. Hope you get as much joy from your beauty.

I feel bad when I put the rodent out for the owl, I know I should not but I do.

My best friend was visiting on Saturday night and after hearing how the rodent squeals she could not help crying.

Great picture Elise. Glad he is coming back every night to eat. If he is still young he may think that is his home and come back year after year.

We don't seem to have owls here although they may be if we lived nearer the mountains. We do have a lot of birds though. We do have an occasionally road runner come around our subdivision. They are fun to watch.

Elize, A funnny thing happened when we had our white owl. We had birds eating our garden and someone told me to get a rubber snake and put it there and the birds wouldn't come around.
well, I bought the realest one I could find and curled it up in the garden. Within an hour it was grabbed up and hauled off...yep! Not a very good dinner I am afraid...

The owl got a fright last Saturday night when he tried to take the hamster and the hamster started making a noise. It was really funny to see how scared the owl was, he tried 3 times to take the hamster but in the end he decided he'll rather find something else to eat.:rolleye2:
