I posted in another thread that I have been reunited with Corduroy the repeating bear. He's not actually the same bear, but I feel like he has the spirit of my original bear. The only problem is that he doesn't want to talk to me. We got him some new batteries, but I don't know if I just can't figure out how to put a 9-volt battery in him or if his voice box has conked. He looks like he's in perfect condition other than that. Do any of you guys know anyone who can help me? Thanks.

Does Corduroy have a voice box that uses batteries?

All I know is that there is a place in his bottom for a 9-volt AND two double-A batteries. I'm thinking there may be wiring that leads from the recorder in his backside to the button in his paw and the big old hard thing in his head that makes his mouth move. I guess he'll have to be cut open in order to get in there and see what's going on. It may just be that a wire is loose or something like that. The sound man at church is sort of an audio geek, and I asked him to take a look, but I'll probably have to find someone to sew him back together because I'm not brave enough to try it with him without some major assistance. Although, that might be a good starting point for me to learn how to put a bear together.

I brought Corduroy with me to church and gave him to the sound man. He said he would try to fix him. I hope he can figure out what's going on. My office is not the same without Corduroy, so I hope he's back soon.

Let us know if Corduroy was fixed.

I haven't gotten him back yet. I only see the gentleman who has him at church. I was supposed to go last night, but I had a spell of vertigo, so I couldn't go. I hope to get him back Sunday, though. I really miss him.

Aw, I get vertigo, it is horrid! Poor Corduroy, laringitis is horrid too!! Can't believe it would be your fault with the way you put the batteries in as you would have tried all ways (even new batteries can be faulty though?)...or the parts where they fit in could be coroded?
He does sound as if he is in very safe hands? Hope that when you are better, he will be too?!! :cute:

Well, if I have to get him a new voice box, I will definitely get one that doesn't require a 9-volt battery. If the part where the battery goes is corroded, is there anything I will be able to do for him?

If it isn't corroded to bad, it may be able to be cleaned up. Most of the dolls I get that have battery compartments have to be cleaning. Good luck with your little guy.

I hope that's all it is. I've been looking for this bear for literally almost 20 years.

As Eva said, if corrosion is the case, it's possible sometimes to clean it off. Maybe try sandpaper and then the batteries will once again connect?
Maybe it is another problem and I am hoping that on Sunday your Corduroy may be speaking again?

I hope so. I think I am going to try to call him today, the guy, not the bear, and see how things are going.

You're not going to believe this. I called the man that has Corduroy, and he doesn't feel comfortable with taking Corduroy apart and looking inside him, but he actually went on the internet and found a talking bear that he is going to give me. He said he thinks the bear repeats like Corduroy is supposed to do. When I tried to ask him how much I owed him for the bear, he said he wanted to give him to me. I sat there and cried after I got off the phone with him because I was so touched by that. I will get Corduroy back Sunday, and he'll give me the new bear when he gets here. Apparently he's still traveling.
I still haven't given up on getting him fixed. I just have to find someone who is brave enough to take him apart. My dad has never done anything like that before, but he is an electronic geek, and he said he would try next time I go up there.

I got someone to take Corduroy's picture today. He's sitting on my lap, and Beloved is snuggling up to him in his arm with her head on his shoulder. The lady is supposed to be e-mailing it to me. I'll post it as soon as I get it.

I have to bring this thread back to tell you that my bear Corduroy has got his voice back!!!!!!!!!!! I took him to Radio Shack, and when I finally got them to look inside him, all it was was that the two wires in his paw were disconnected. The guy sottered him back together and now I can't get him to shut up, lol. Corduroy and I are both so happy. I posted his picture in the first thread I started about him if you haven't seen it yet.

He's definitely been getting a workout last night and today. Beloved even rose to the occasion and squeaked a little bit for him so he could record her. After all, they're best friends and I guess she summoned whatever strength she could from her little voice so she could celebrate with him.
