I am not sure this is where to put this, but here goes. When you make a bear, do you give it a name? I have tried this with mine and the people change the name anyway so I stopped doing it. Does it help to sell the bears with or without a name?

All my bears and bear friends have names and date of birth on their tags.
Just very few of my customer change their names but that doesn't really matter.
Just think of doggies and cat.......when they get pedigreed they have names nobody can remember so mostly they get familiar names from the people who adopt them....
so what :-))
For me it's important to give names - sometimes customers come back to me and remind me: I'm the one who bought "......." from you- or "can you make me "......" with a grey fur f.ex.

Yes, I give all my bears a name, because when I design a new pattern I will call it the "A" or the "D" etc. pattern. When I make bears from the "A" pattern" all the bears from that pattern will have a name that start with A (Andre, Angy etc.) If I make two bears from the same pattern & the same mohair they will be called Andre(1) & Andre(2). This system is more for me, than for the person who buys the bear. I have numbered all my bears as well, but give the person who buys the bear the opportunity to change the name of the bear. Every bear comes with a "registration certificate" with the details of the bear. The new owner can email me or send a message via snail mail with the bears' new name. All this information is on my website with a picture of the bear as well as the details of the "new owner" of the bear.

Long ago I bought a bear and gave her the name of "Hope" and even today when I look at her I know there is always hope.(Hope did not have a name when I bought her).
I bought an artist teddy bear in Philadelphia, last year, and I decided his name must be Philli. Whenever I look at him I think back of how difficult it was to find an artist bear in America and when I saw Philli in the shop he was very expensive and I did not buy him. The next morning on the way to the airport we had to go and wait for the shop to open, with all our luggage , so that I could buy my bear.:D

I do name each bear I make.
It gives them more personality to my view point.
Plus, to be honnest, I noticed that most artists were doing it.
In addition, it is easier to keep track on them on my computer and in my memories!
Hugs,
Sophie.

:new:Hi everyone
Yes I also name my bears , though the more bears I make the more difficult it gets!
I also find it helps to keep records of them.
If I am making a special order bear I ask the purchaser if they would like to choose a name or sometimes they choose to just have a personalised tag saying the bear is a special present for ..........etc

Hi,
All my bears have names and a little story to go with them!
I have a range of old style bears, called my Oak range and all the bears' names begin with an 'O'. My Birch Bears (so called as their fur is the colour of Silver Birch trees) all begin with a 'B'. trouble is, I'll get to a stage where I run out of names for each letter.
We're in the process of buying a house in France. Any bears made there will have French names. :puzzled:

I have made myself an alphabetical list and everytime I hear an interesting name on television or see a name that I like in a book I write it down. It helps a little bit.;)

I name all my bears and I am like you Elize, I have a notebook with
name that I really like and enter them alphabetically in a book.
It is intersting that sometimes the name you choose really suits the bear
:).

Yes, I can't help but name them, as soon as I look into their lovely little eyes a name usually pops into my head, if a name dose not come to me my daughter usually comes up with one and even my hubby has named two!!
for me, naming them show I love them more I guess

I also name every bear I make . It adds to the
total "package" of the bear to have a name that
brings out their personality and attitude to the all
around character of the bear, I think.
But bears with no name are fine too! :)

Marianne I also have bears in my collection without names. I never thought about it until now, and my bears without names are fine like you say"happy6:

I name every bear in my collection. I try not to rename bears that already come with a name, unless the bear really looks to me like they need a different name!

Not all my bears have names. The ones that I didn't make, if they came with a name, I keep it but if they didn't I don't name them. I have so many I couldn't remember them anyway. With the bears that I make, a name usually comes to me as I am making the bear but if it doesn't I will just number the bear and let the buyer name it.

I know that this is an old post on here but I can't be the only "newbie"?
I also name them, sometimes before they arrive but other times when we "meet"!! :juggle:
I try to keep a "record" too, of their story, how much they cost and where they came from.
I realised, reading this that many of you make your bears, interested to see pics etc of these and to hear how you started?!! :?: Ana x

I wish I was organized enough to keep records of all my bears! I always name the ones I make. I make a little hang tag for them with a picture of them, the materials, any important information and their name.
Say, I just thought, I could do that with all my bears even if I didn't make them. At least they would have their information handy.

Well, I collect bears and I make bears and do they all have names, no. I have been making bears for 30 years and I couldn't even tell you how many hundreds of bears I have made.
Once I started my website about 3 years ago, I did start naming my bears for there because it was easier to keep track of them but as for keeping records of the sold ones no, don't do that either.
I will show you the picture of the bear I made this past week. It is not one of my designs and the design is copywrited so it will not be sold but added to my collection. I only make child safe, faux fur bears, but I am taking a online class right now where I will be using mohair. If you want to see my designs you will have to go to my website.

My bears are mohair of my own design. I made one faux fur one and my hands bled for ever!...just can't work with that stuff! Your bear is very cute!
