he was overly loved by my bulldog 6 years ago & has been waiting for repairs which i have finally started. he is around 24" tall not counting ears, very hard stuffed...i knew over the years he had a non-working growler inside him but yesterday when i started the repairs i dug inside & actually found two growlers that no longer make sounds. there is some sort of handwriting on paper glued to the ceramic weight inside each growler too but not sure what it says.
his footpads & hand pads are made from the same material as the rest of his body. he has three stitched claws on hands & feet. his leg disc are wooden but the arm & head disc are more like a very hard cardboard. all the disc are joined with nuts & bolts. his eyes appear to be shoe buttons. his nose stitches are a dark brown color on the exposed area but noticed as i restitched his muzzle back on that the thread color on the inside was black, as if it had faded over the years. his seams are machine done other then a length in the back where he was stuffed, then sewn by hand. i noticed that the fur on the inside seams & in the joint areas are very white colored compared to the exposed areas.
i would appreciate any help with the repair of the growlers & any ideas about his origins & would the lighter color fur in the protected areas mean that he was white originally?

gigi77 :welcome: to the forum.

I do not think the bear was white. It looks like he is made form artificial silk plush which is a man-made fibre with shine and a silky feel. It was used after World War I as it was a less expensive alternative to mohair. As it was usually dyed I think the color of the bear may have been the golden yellow that is visible inside of the ear. The white sections have faded back to the original color of the artificial silk plush - only my opinion.:confused2:

I also have a growler to one day repair/get repaired. Right now, it just rattles around inside him. Your teddy is lovely! Ana x
