I visited the Namib desert in April 2008 (oldest desert in the world) and fell in love with it. The dunes in the desert are constantly moving, exposing old graves of the desert people, their tools, evidence of food they ate and body ornaments.

As the dunes move graves are exposed. This is a grave of a child.

Interesting to see the that desert. We have several deserts here which have sand dunes but not in the desert where I live. The desert where I live is rocky with clay soil and we do have trees and scrub brush. In the spring after the little rain we have (about 6 inches a year) the desert is in bloom with really pretty orange, yellow and purple flowers. They last around 4 weeks and then everything turns brown again. We are in our summer months right now with temperatures during the day around 110F. to 115F. We live in the air conditioned house and only go out when we have to shop.

On the way to the Namib desert you go through the Naukluft pass, and there it is rocky . In the picture (left) it looks very green because it rained quite a lot. In the picture on the right is a waterhole where birds and jackal drink. The temperature is more or less 110F- 115F and the desert sand storms are just terrible. It is an unforgiving place but beautiful:)
